Weekend Pilot shows real photos of places to visit. Every photo carries a credit “Photo: …” with author and source. We pick photos in this order: first photos from the community, then freely licensed photos from Wikimedia Commons, and only then photos from Google Maps.
1. Wikimedia Commons
Photos from Wikimedia Commons are under free licences, mostly CC BY-SA or CC BY, some are in the public domain (CC0, Public Domain). The photo shows “Photo: author (licence) via Wikimedia Commons”. The name links to the author’s page, the licence to the licence text and “Wikimedia Commons” to the file page with all details.
We show these photos scaled down and cropped; otherwise we do not change them. The note “Ausschnitt, verkleinert” (cropped, scaled down) on the photo says so. Photos whose licence requires naming the author are only used when the author is known.
2. Google Maps
Photos from Google Maps are taken by Google Maps users. The photo shows their names with a link to their profile, and “Google Maps”. The Google Maps Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy apply.
When shown, the photos are loaded from Google through our server and cached for one day at most. We do not store them as files and do not pass them on in share images or widgets. We keep references to Google photos and Google ratings for 30 days at most; after that we replace them with a free photo, reload them or remove them.
3. Photos from the community
Families can share their own photos as community tips. They keep the copyright (Terms, section 7b). The photo shows “Photo: Weekend-Pilot-Familie”. We do not use photos with recognisable people.
4. Maps
Map excerpts come from Apple Maps; the credit is shown in the map image. Place data partly comes from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL).
5. Report a problem
Does a photo show the wrong place, is a credit missing, or do you see your rights infringed? Write to florian.mahrl@gmail.com. We check it right away and remove the photo if the complaint is justified.
